For Our Future Wisconsin Urges Congress to Support Infrastructure Bill
WISCONSIN -- With a vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill scheduled to take place this Thursday, For Our Future Wisconsin is urging Wisconsin’s Members of Congress to take action.
“Passing the bipartisan infrastructure bill is necessary for the future health of our state,” said For Our Future Wisconsin’s Communications Director Analiese Eicher. “In Wisconsin there are 979 bridges and over 1,949 miles of road in poor condition. Lead pipes endanger drinking water across the state. Internet access is not consistently available and accessible, particularly in rural areas. This bill addresses those challenges.”
Investments in Wisconsin include:
$5.2 billion for federal-aid highway apportioned programs and $225 million for bridge replacement and repairs with a focus on climate change mitigation, resilience, equity, and safety for all users, including cyclists and pedestrians.
$592 million to improve healthy, sustainable transportation options
$100 million to help connect every Wisconsinite to reliable high-speed internet
$38 million to prepare Wisconsin’s infrastructure for the impacts of climate change, cyber attacks, and extreme weather events while reducing energy costs for consumers
$841 million to deliver clean drinking water to Wisconsinites
“When passed, these significant investments in infrastructure over the next 5 years will be life changing. The comprehensive bipartisan infrastructure bill will make life better for millions in Wisconsin, create good-paying jobs, spur economic growth, and set the stage for future success,” Eicher concluded.
